2.What mode of delivering lectures (verbal, chalk-board, overhead transparencies, or PowerPoint) have you had the most experience with? Which mode do you prefer (as student) and which one will you choose in your own classrooms and why?
During my student teaching experience I used a white board during every class period and on occasion used the overhead projector (once every two weeks). During my first teaching job in Bayonne, instead of using a whiteboard to present notes and visuals, I used the overhead projector on a daily basis. When I started teaching in Millburn, I exercised the overhead for the first month of school and then moved on to using the LCD projector and document camera for the remainder of the year. During my elementary years as a student, teachers did not use any other form of lecture aid besides the chalkboard and overhead. It was hard to understand material that was presented on the chalkboard when teachers wrote sloppily or were disorganized. The overhead was tolerable but it was not until high school that I actually enjoyed when teachers used computer generated slides to present slides on the LCD. As a teacher, I have chosen to use PowerPoint presentations and the LCD projector as the primary lecture aid in my class. I have prepared PowerPoint presentations along with guided notes for almost every topic covered in my class. I have chosen to use computer generated slides for a multitude reasons.
It is easy to modify PowerPoint presentations when new information arises or when old information must be deleted. Presentations help me: organize my thoughts, stay on task and make sure I get through all of the necessary material every day. PowerPoint presentations can easily be saved and shared with students and parents. Slides benefit students who are absent by allowing them to access the notes from home.
